Mid-February: Cheri starts to notice she doesn’t like the taste of coffee. We should have figured it out right then. She told me coffee “tasted like soap.”
March 7th: Cheri takes some home tests. All are positive.
Week of March 10th: Labwork shows elevated hormone levels. Good news.
April 23rd: The big first appointment. The doctor detects the baby’s heartbeat. We take the rest of the day off.
May 2: Cheri started the actual baby book; the real, tangible one that we can write in with a pen.
May 2: Talked about the baby the niece and nephew. James: “I want a boy”. Katharine: “I want a girl.” James: “Well, if it’s a girl, I guess there’s nothing that can be done about that.” He did mention a show he saw about gender reassignment. We shot that possibility down then and there.
May 10: Cheri woke up really hungry for the first time in a long while. We went to HuHot. Success.
May 11: The second trimester begins.
June 4: The second appointment. Sonogram picks up a strong heartbeat again. The ultrasound appointment is scheduled for June 18.
June 8: Cheri reports her first detection of the baby’s movement… a flutter.
July 7: Cheri feels kicks, real solid kicks this time. She reports the baby was kicking in time to some music a co-worker was playing.
